WICREATIONS working with producer Kristof Darcon and in co-operation with PRG, supplied 76 motion hoists and control to two dance extravaganzas staged back-to-back in February by Zillion XXX at Antwerp’s legendary Sportpaleis ‘The Final Rave’ on the Friday featured a strong line up including 4 Strings, The Thrillseekers, Yves Deruyter, Dave Lambert and many more.
It was followed by ‘Rampage’ on the Saturday, both setting Antwerp alive and buzzing with a hi-energy mix of hardcore dubstep and serious d ‘n’ b.
Zillion XXX is known for producing eye-popping visual environments, and automation is often a core element of creative director Frank Verstraeten’s ideas for the show.
Each year the production designs aspire to deliver new and even more amazing live experiences to the thousands of Zillion fans. It was the first time that WI had been involved in these events, partnering up and supplying a massive total of 96 active HOISTS.
56 HOISTS were utilised to fly eight 40 metre long trusses above the audience, populated with a combination of moving lights and LED panels. These were required to fly in and out and also to pitch left and right.
40 x HOISTS were used on two large LED walls along the sides of the venue, each of which weighed 7.5 tonnes and moved up and down.
Operating was WI’s Erik Gielen & Joey Poortman. Geert Stockmans was the project manager.
Our extensive knowledge of the venue plus their excellent working relationship withthe other suppliers ensured everything ran like clockwork on site.
The moving elements had a huge impact on the look and feel of the space, enabling the show dynamics to be radically altered.
The room could go from being closed right down, more intimate and inclusive with the flying structures in … to being huge with them flown all the way out, accentuating the architecture and volume of the venue.
There were numerous other positional combinations for the screens and trusses that kept things changing, moving and grooving with the pumping beats and sounds of the music.
