For the fifth year running, leading Belgian DJs Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike played four pumping, action-packed fully sold-out nights at the Sportpalais in Antwerp, ending another phenomenally successful year in style with their ‘Bringing the Madness: Reflections’ show.

Bringing the madness: Reflections

WI was asked to help deliver some truly spectacular technical stunts and special effects for these shows including tracking a flying DJ booth from one end of the Sportpalais to the other, and flying four 51 metre long x 4.5 metre wide LED clad metal frames – dubbed ‘matrasses’ by the crew - which moved up and down above the audience.

The matrass frames – loaded with the LED video panels - each weighed around 10 tonnes. They were built by PRG and flown by WI utilising 26 x 500Kg and 18 x 800Kg HOISTS, positioned between 3.7 and 4.2 metres apart on the long sides of the structures, with another pair of hoists at the stage end to deal with cable management.

The DJ booth was on a set of 55 metre WITRACK rigged to run down a centre channel in the middle of the four matrasses. The LED clad DJ booth, complete with a ‘crown’ of LED to mask chains and cabling, was suspended and moved utilising five 2.5 tonne motors.

WI’s own Hans Willems was the automation engineer and project manager for these shows, and WI was extremely proud to be part of a talented, highly skilled and creative production team which helped the artists bring the house down.
