Rock Werchter 2010 - Shelter
Built a shelter for my people
Expecting shimmering heat – or torrential rain – Rock Werchter organizer LiveNation asked us to design a shelter to protect about 4000 people against the elements. As they count about 3 people per square meter, the cover had to be ± 1500 m2. So we designed a canvas of 51 by 31 meters supported by an aluminium frame built with self designed and engineered trusses. The aluminium frame itself was attached to 8 WI-towers that held the chain hoists to lift the frame. The shelter was held down with 4 anchors driven 4 meters into the ground to get the tension right. LiveNation proved right afterwards. The heat during this famous rock festival (1-4 July 2010) was staggering.
